When old concrete becomes new concrete
|
ZIN scores a first in Belgium! Part of the rubble of the old WTC towers is being used to make new concrete. This is preceded by an ingenious process. Some 30,000 tonnes of dismantled concrete is transported to the ABR site, a stone’s throw from the site. There it is ground and transformed to new granulates, which are tested for quality, and then integrated into new concrete used for the construction of ZIN. This greatly reduces the use of new raw materials, waste production and the environmental impact of transport. On our website, we will regularly post information about the circular building process of the ZIN project, which is a good reason for you to visit www.zin.brussels from time to time.

28 floors dismantled in 30 weeks
|
The works started in August. With surgical precision, one floor of the existing WTC towers was dismantled each week until only the core and part of the base were left. Quite a spectacle right in the centre of the Brussels North area!
If you want to see the process yourself, have a look at the Timelapse below from August to today.
