The foundations of ZIN
In March, a new phase started on the ZIN project worksite. The Open Minds construction consortium, consisting of CFE, BPC, VMA and Van Laere, makes its official entrance onto the worksite. Open Minds already started installing 99 extra pile foundations, in addition to the existing foundations, during the dismantling works. These foundations are being drilled over 35 metres deep into the ground via the underground floors. Together with the existing foundations, they will provide proper stability and support when the central volume connects the two towers in the future. Wondering how these foundations are installed? You’ll find more information here.

A pilot in the city.
By Jean-Claude Yindjo Onana -
Crane driver of the ZIN project
Everything is risky, nothing is easy. You really have to be precise and know what you are doing. Every mistake can be fatal. I have to keep an eye on everything without seeing anything.
Take off with crane operator Jean-Claude Yindjo Onana to a height of 150 metres and discover his story here. Not suitable for viewers with a fear of heights.
Thank you Karine Dana for the amazing images.

From cradle to cradle: what is C2C?
ZIN is setting high standards and striving to provide 95% of its new materials with C2C certification. But what does C2C stand for? In Cradle to Cradle (C2C for short), healthy materials that have already had a life as a specific product are reused as new raw material or new product, without loss of quality. This way, the C2C principle creates added value under the slogan “Waste Equals Food”. This upcycling reduces the use of raw materials, waste production and the environmental impact of transport. For materials that meet these strict requirements, the Cradle-to-Cradle Products Innovation Institute has created the C2C quality label. You’ll find more information here.

Two partners of ZIN received awards
We can already call 2021 a successful year. After ZIN won the be.exemplary award in the ‘Major private works’ category in 2019, the momentum is continuing in 2021. In January, partner CCB Concrete was the first company in the Benelux to receive its silver Cradle to Cradle certificate for ready-mixed concrete. But in February too, ZIN was named ‘Best in Belgium’ in the Mixed Use category at the International Property Awards in London. Jaspers-Eyers Architects and ZIN won this prize on 5 February.
